trucks on a highway

Did you know that...

Nearly 100% of the world's airlines as well as off-the-road, heavy duty vehicles use retreaded tires?

So do...

School Buses, Municipal Vehicles, Federal and Military Vehicles, Trucking Fleets, Overnight Delivery Vehicles, Postal Service, Taxis, Race Cars, Fire Trucks, Ambulances, and many others!

In 2000, the total replacement medium truck tire market in North America* was approximately 33.8 million tires, (18.1 million were retreads and 15.6 were new tires).

Approximately 20 million retreaded tires were sold in North America* in 2003, with sales totalling more than 2 billion dollars.

There are approximately 1060 retreading plants in North America*

Economic Benefits

For most fleets, tires represent the third largest item in their operating budget, right after labor and fuel cost.

Retreaded truck tires represent a savings of over $2 billion annually for truckers and trucking companies in North America (Tire Retread Information Bureau, 2004 Facts & Figures).

Safety Features

  • Retreaded truck tires are manufactured according to rigorous industry standards.
  • Retreaded passenger car tires are manufactured according to the Federal Safety Standards developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • All retreaded tires are identified as to manufacturer and date of production.
  • Retreaded tires can be driven at the same legal speeds as comparable new tires with no loss in safety, performance, or comfort.
  • Commercial aircraft retreads are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Ecological Benefits

It takes 22 gallons of oil to manufacture a new tire, only 7 for a retread. That means retreading conserves more than 400 million gallons of oil every year.

RETREADING IS RECYCLING!

In 1998, President Clinton's Executive Order 13101: "Greening The Government Through Waste Prevention, Recycling and Federal Acquisition" mandated the use of retreaded tires on all government vehicles.
